29/09/2003 - 2003 GIRLS JUNIOR SOFTBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP:
RIVAS FINISHES IN 9th PLACE.
RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 junior team finished in 9th place at the "2003 Girls Junior Softball National Championship" played from September 26th to 28th in Valencia, where 10 spanish teams participated.
Champion team has been Hércules from Hospitalet who defeated Antorcha EEDDMM from Valencia at the Final (5-2). For more information see section RESULTS.
As it happend last year, the level of the competition was quite high and our young players were not able to follow it. Hope and excitement were not enough to compensate the lack of experience on the field and they only won 1 out of the 5 games played.
Coaches of our junior team have a very positive valuation of their participation in this championship and really hope to improve qualification for next year. These young players have shown us, once more, that in spite of bad results it is possible to enjoy playing since they learn from their own mistakes and their rivals'.
02/09/2003 - 2003 GIRLS JUNIOR SOFTBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP:
RIVAS JUNIOR TEAM STARTS TRAINNING.
Last Tuesday, September 2nd, the Rivas junior team starts trainning, to prepare next "2003 National Junior Championship" in which ten Spanish teams will participate. It will take place in Valencia and will last three days, from September 26th to 28th.
The Rivas Club will participate with a Junior Team formed by young players of the past 2003 season. Both, players and coaches Cristina Gómez del Pulgar and Patricia Sáenz (players of the senior team) are very excited about this competition and their goal is to improve the final standings towards the place achieved last year at the same event.
28/07/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL QUEEN'S CUP:
NO EUROPEAN COMPETITION FOR RIVAS NEXT SEASON.
This year it was not possible either. The third position achieved for Rivas Ciudad del Deporte Madrid2012 at the Queen-s Cup will avoid any participation in European competitions next season 2004.
Rivas was defeated in the semifinals playing against Viladecans from Barcelona (9-5) and Antorcha from Valencia (3-2).
This way the final standing is as follows: 1º VILADECANS (from Barcelona); 2º ANTORCHA (from Valencia); 3º RIVAS (from Madrid); 4º OBB (from Guipúzcoa); 5º PAMPLONA.
In spite of these results, there is to mention the individual award for Best Hitter to Beatriz Requejo Scaloni, third base from the Rivas team.
16/06/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION:
END OF THE LEAGUE. RIVAS IN THIRD PLACE.
The 14th day of the National Softball League, Top Division has been the end of the 2003 League. RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 has finished in third place after VILADECANS, the champion and Kirolgi OBB.
In this last Sunday of the League, June 15th, RIVAS defeated at home SAN MARCIAL from Irún by 14-3 in the first game and 15-0 in the second one.
02/06/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: Rivas defeats Viladecans in the first game and loses the second by one run.
In the 13th day of the Women Softball National League, Top Division, the team RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 defeated VILADECANS in the first game by 3-6 but lost the second game with a final score of 6-5.
Now, there is only one more Day of the League for it to be finished and the final standings are practically determined: RIVAS will be third behind Viladecans (first) and Kirolgi OBB (second); Antorcha will finish in fourth place.
This week no games of the League will be played and the last Day will be on July, Sunday 15th. Then RIVAS will play at home against SAN MARCIAL from Irún.
26/05/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: Two more victories for Rivas in the second round playing Hércules from Hospitalet.
In the 12ve day of the Women Softball National League, Top Division, the team RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 won both games played at home in the second round of the League against HÉRCULES from Hospitalet. The scores of these games were as follows: 11-1 for the first game and 10-0 for the second.
19/05/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: Double victory for Rivas in Orio.
In the 11th day of the Women Softball National League, Top Division, the team RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 achieved two important victories against KIROLGI OBB from Orio, Guipúzcoa.
RIVAS defeated KIROLGI OBB in the first game by 2-0, although the final score could have been higher for Madrid since two runs were disallowed in a controversial play at a critical moment when the score was still cero all. In spite of it, RIVAS managed to score those two winning runs (in the sixth and seventh innings) and got the victory of the first game.
Second game was also very intense and exciting. The team from Rivas played a very good deffense and offense liked done in the first game and won the game by 5-0. The first 2 runs were scored in the third inning and the rest in the sixth one.
12/05/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: Irregular day for Rivas in Valencia.
10th day of the Women Softball National League, Top Division and the team RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 defeated the team from Valencia ANTORCHA in the first game but lost the second one.
In the first game RIVAS won ANTORCHA by 0-12, thanks to a great team effort. But they lost the second game by 15-7 after being ahead until the end of the fourth inning when the valencians got to be ahead and stayed ahead until the end of the game scoring more runs that RIVAS was not able to overcome.
We have to thank the RIVAS juniors who, cheering from the stands for the seniors along the games, had travelled with the senior team to play a friendly on Saturday afternoon against the ANTORCHA junior team.
05/05/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: Rivas defeats Gavá in the 9th day of the League.
In the 9th day of the Women Softball National League, RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 won both games against GAVÁ from Barcelona. The score in the first game was 2-16 and in the second one it was 0-25, both of them for RIVAS. We want to point out the debut of our north american pitcher Deanna Clark.
28/04/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: Rivas defeats Pamplona in the 8th day of the League.
In the 8th day of the Women Softball National League Top Division, RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 won both games played against PAMPLONA. The final score of the first game was 11-2 and in the second one it was 12-2, both for RIVAS.
14/04/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: End of the first round of the League. Rivas wins both games in Irún.
The first round of the League finishes with this seventh day, and the first place of the standings is for VILADECANS. In this day, the women softball team RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 won both games played against SAN MARCIAL from Irún. The scores for RIVAS in the first and second game were as follows: 1-17 and 0-18. After this seventh day of the League RIVAS stays in fourth place of the standings. The competition will continue next April 27th, right after the Holly Week. That Sunday, our team will play PAMPLONA at home.
07/04/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: Rivas is defeated at home by Viladecans in both games played by only one run.
In the 6th day of the Women Softball National League, Top Division, the team RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 lost both games played at home against VILADECANS from Barcelona. Both games were very exited and hard-fought and unfortunately our girls were not very lucky. The final scores of the games were as follows: 6-7 and 8-9.
We want to mention the participation of our new RIVAS catcher Laura Burstein from Argentina and also would like to point out the return of Maribel Marín "Boli" as pitcher in the second game. Watching her picth again was really a privilege for all the people who were there. After this Day of the League and almost at the end of the first round RIVAS stays in fourth place of the general standings.
31/03/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: In a rainy day Rivas wins both games played against Hércules.
It was a rainy Sunday but both games of the Women Softball National League 2003, Top Division were played. Our team RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 won both games played against HÉRCULES L'Hospitalet. The final scores of both games were as follows: 14-11 in the first game and 16-4 in the second.
24/03/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: Rivas loses both games played at home against Kirolgi-OBB.
Last Sunday, March 23rd, our women softball team RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 lost both games played at home against the team from Guipúzcoa KIROLGI OBB. The final scores were as follows: 2-12 in the first game and 3-4 in the second one.
17/03/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: Rivas plays against Antorcha: Loses the first game and wins the second one.
In the third day of the National League 2003, Top Division, the women softball team RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 plays at home against ANTORCHA: The Madrid team lost the first game by 3-13 but won the second one by 7-6.
10/03/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: Rivas wins at home both games against Gavá.
In the second day of the National League 2003, Top Division, the women softball team RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 won both games played at home against GAVÁ from Barcelona. The final score for the first game was 13-3 and 21-6 was the final score of the second game played.
04/03/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: Rivas wins the two games played against Pamplona.
Last Sunday, March 2nd, the 2003 National League Top Division started. On this first day, the women softball team RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 won the double headed against PAMPLONA. Our team won the first game by the mercy rule after the fourth inning with a final score of 23 to 7.
The second game was not decided so soon: Rivas was ahead 12 to 6 on the sixth inning, but trouble came when Pamplona scored 5 runs and finished the inning only 1 run behind. Fortunately, Rivas scored 5 more runs and managed to avoid Pamplona from scoring. This way the game finished with a score of 17-11 for our team. We want to mention the young player Rocío García's debut in Top Division on the second game. Also known as "Fibi", she was the one who got the last out by catching a fly ball to the right field.
25/02/2003 - 2003 WOMEN SOFTBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE TOP DIVISION: Rivas women softball team starts the National League next March 2nd.
Next Sunday, March 2nd, the women softball team RIVAS CIUDAD DEL DEPORTE MADRID 2012 will start the 2003 National League, Top Division, playing against PAMPLONA. For this 1st day of the League, our team will travel to Pamplona to play their first official game of this season. The first one will be at 12:30 o'clock and after a break of half an hour the second one will be played. 2nd day of the League, next March 9th: RIVAS will play GAVÁ from Barcelona at home.
23/01/2003 - RIVAS SOFTBALL FIELD, THE ONLY ONE IN SPAIN QUALIFIED AS TOP INTERNATIONAL.
As the Royal Baseball and Softball Spanish Federation (RFEBS) published in its web site, the Rivas-Vaciamadrid softball field placed in the Sports Center Cerro del Telégrafo, has been qualified as "Tipo-S1" category for a playing field: TOP INTERNATIONAL. It means that it has the authorization to hold any category of international events being the only one in Spain with the characteristics required to do so: fence, stands, dressing rooms, kind of ground, security area, artificial lighting, score board, speakers, etc and doesn't need any specific field rule.
This field has already experience in holding international championships: the most important one was the "VII European Cup Women Softball, pool B" in September 1999 when the softball team Rivas-Vaciamadrid was the champion.
21/01/2003 - OLIMPIC MADRID: Madrid, Spanish city chosen by the COE to organize the 2012 Olympic Games
Madrid and not Seville will be the Spanish city that will fight for the 2012 Olympic Games, as decided by the General Assembly of the Spanish Olympic Commitee (COE).
